Catering
Our Catering Team
We have a very able catering team led by Chris Pawson seen here busy preparing food in June 2023.
Meals
Each week we provide nourishing but simple hot meals as liked by the members of our community. Wherever possible, we use fresh ingredients by purchasing fresh meat and using fresh vegetables - often supplied by the Blackpool Food Bank.
Some of the regular favourites are:
- Cottage Pie
- Beef Stew
- Cheese and Onion Pie
- Sausage and Mash
- Tuna Pasta
- Corned Beef Hash
- Chicken Pie
- Beans on Toast with Scrambled Egg
We always provide a vegetarian option and have separate utensils and chopping boards for preparing allergen-free food.
At the end of each session, everyone is provided with a freshly-filled barm cake. We usually give the choice of egg mayonnaise, corned beef and pickle, and cheese and onion. Cheese and onion barms are by far the most popular! Filling 70-80 barmcakes is not a trivial job.
Food Allergy and Intolerance
Comfort C.A.F.E. follows the Food Standards Agency guidance on food allergy and intolerance.
- Prepacked food (in our case sandwiches and rolls) are affixed with a label that displays a full ingredients list, with allergenic ingredients emphasised.
- Each table is provided with an information sheet containing information about the 14 allergens groups.
Food Safety
Volunteers handling food are trained in food hygiene to the appropriate standard.
On 29 November 2022 we were inspected by the Blackpool Food Safety team and were awarded a "VERY GOOD" Food Hygiene Rating - the highest you can get. The inspectors said they were impressed with our whole operation. All of our volunteers played their part in this, but particular thanks go to Chris Pawson for the enormous effort she put into ensuring all procedures were well-documented and implemented.
